Privacy Policy

We're straight up about how we handle your info - no fancy legal mumbo jumbo here

Last updated: November 2024

Look, we get it...

Nobody actually enjoys reading these things, but we've tried to make this as painless as possible. Bottom line? We respect your privacy and won't do anything shady with your information. Here's the full picture of what we collect, why we need it, and what we do with it.

What Info We Actually Collect

When you reach out to us or use our website, we might collect a few different types of information:

Personal Details You Share

This is stuff you give us directly - name, email, phone number, address. Usually happens when you're filling out a contact form or scheduling a consultation. We're not gonna ask for things we don't need, promise.

Project-Related Information

If we're working together on a project, you'll probably share site photos, property details, budget ranges, design preferences - all that good stuff. We keep this secure and only use it for your project work.

Technical Bits & Pieces

Like most websites, we collect some technical data - IP addresses, browser types, which pages you visit. It's pretty standard stuff that helps us understand how people use our site and fix things when they break.

Cookies & Tracking

Yeah, we use cookies. Not the chocolate chip kind, unfortunately. These help us remember your preferences and make the site work better. You can disable them in your browser if you want, though some features might get a bit wonky.

How We Use Your Information

We're not here to spam you or sell your data to random companies. Here's what we actually do with your info:

  • Respond to your inquiries - Pretty obvious, but if you contact us, we need your details to get back to you
  • Manage projects - If you're a client, we use your info to deliver the services you hired us for
  • Send updates - Occasionally we'll shoot over project updates, invoices, or relevant info. We won't flood your inbox
  • Improve our services - Analytics help us understand what's working and what needs tweaking
  • Legal stuff - Sometimes we're required to keep records for legal or regulatory reasons

Who Gets Access to Your Data

We're pretty protective of your information, but there are a few scenarios where others might see it:

Our team - Obviously, the folks working on your project need access to relevant info
Service providers - We use trusted third-party services for things like email hosting, cloud storage, and payment processing. They're all vetted and contractually bound to keep your data safe
Consultants & contractors - Sometimes we bring in specialists for specific project aspects. They only get the info they need to do their part
Legal requirements - If the law requires us to share information, we'll do so. But we'll give you a heads up if we can

What we DON'T do: We don't sell your personal information to marketers, data brokers, or anyone else. Period.

Your Rights & Choices

This is your data, and you've got some control over it:

Access & Correction

Want to see what info we have about you? Need to update something? Just shoot us an email and we'll sort it out.

Deletion

You can ask us to delete your personal information, though we might need to keep some stuff for legal reasons or to complete active projects.

Opt-Out

Don't wanna hear from us anymore? There's an unsubscribe link in every marketing email we send. Easy peasy.

Data Portability

Need a copy of your data in a usable format? We can make that happen.

Keeping Your Data Safe

We take security seriously around here. While no system is 100% hack-proof, we use industry-standard measures to protect your information:

  • Encrypted data transmission (that's the little lock icon in your browser)
  • Secure servers with regular backups
  • Limited access - only team members who need specific info can see it
  • Regular security audits and updates
  • Secure file sharing for project documents

If there's ever a data breach (knock on wood), we'll let you know ASAP and tell you what happened and what we're doing about it.

Data Retention - How Long We Keep Stuff

We don't hoard your data forever. Here's the general approach:

Active projects: We keep all relevant info until the project wraps up and any warranty periods expire

Past clients: We'll keep basic contact info and project records for about 7 years (Canadian tax and legal requirements, unfortunately)

Inquiries that didn't pan out: Usually deleted within 2 years if we haven't heard back from you

Marketing contacts: Kept until you unsubscribe or we haven't had meaningful contact in 3 years

International Data Transfers

We're based in Toronto, Canada, and most of our data stays right here. However, some of our service providers (like cloud hosting or email services) might store data on servers in other countries, including the US. These providers are carefully selected and comply with applicable privacy laws.

If you're outside Canada and provide us with personal information, know that it'll be transferred to and processed in Canada under Canadian privacy laws.

Third-Party Links

Our website might have links to other sites - consultant portfolios, supplier websites, building product manufacturers, that sort of thing. We're not responsible for their privacy practices, so definitely check out their policies if you're concerned.

Changes to This Policy

We might update this privacy policy from time to time as our practices evolve or laws change. When we do, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If there are major changes, we'll shoot you an email if we have your contact info.

It's worth checking back here occasionally to stay in the loop.

Questions? Concerns? Just Wanna Chat?

Seriously, if anything in here is unclear or you've got privacy concerns, don't hesitate to reach out. We'd rather you ask than worry.
